Sunday, 12 July, at the KNUST Poolside, SAG community witnessed one of the most important milestones in Swim Africa Ghana's yearly calendar — the Swim School Graduation and Awards Day.

This year's graduation saw 22 learners complete the Swim School assessment, earning them the spot.

The ceremony is a yearly celebration of achievement, hard work, determination, and self-confidence as learners transition from the Learn-to-swim program into the Competitive program.

The graduation ceremony also marks the beginning of their competitive journey, where they get introduced to their mentors — experienced competitive swimmers who are already on the team. The peer mentor-mentee program helps the new 'swimmers' transition smoothly throughout the early periods of their transition. The mentors provide safety nets upon which the new swimmers can rely; share their fears; get to learn how these mentors handled such moments; and more.

Special Awards

This celebrates the most outstanding learners amongst the graduates. The special awards celebrate the best in 2 categories:

  1. Most Improved Learner Award: This award recognizes learners who have improved on all assessment criteria over the period, with relatively little challenges. This award also recognizes learners who have seamlessly transitioned across the development mileposts.
  2. Swim School Star Award: This is the coveted award in the Swim School program. The winner of this award must embody the spirit and soul of what the Swim School stands for: consistency, resilience, determination, knowledge, application of contents, social confidence, punctuality, respect, and cooperation. This is awarded to an outstanding character and performance.
